Trip to Savannah
August 26-28, 2005
Greg and I
celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary with a trip to historic
Savannah, Georgia, one of the oldest and most well preserved
cities in America.
This is Greg out
front of Ballastone
Inn where we stayed for our weekend. It's a delightful Bed and
Breakfast with some of the best accommodations, food and service
we've experienced.
Savannah's Historic district is laid
out in squares with quaint park benches, monuments, brick walkways
and lots of Spanish moss hanging from the live oaks.

The pink house - where we ate for
dinner. Some of the workers here claim the place is haunted. Seems
the man who original commissioned the construction of this home
didn't like that it turned out pink. It was original red brick
with white stucco over the top. The red brick bled through and
turned the house pink. The man wanted to tear it down, but his
wife liked it.. matter of fact she liked it so well she ran off
with the architect and the husband ended up killing himself and now is believed to haunt the place.

took this picture from our seat in the corner.
The homes in Savannah really don't
have lawns, but
many do have elegant gardens like this one
This English restaurant was featured
in the Julia Roberts - Dennis Quaid movie, "Something to Talk
About." Not one of my personal favorites of the pair, but
hey, it's famous, so I had to take a picture - right?
The live oaks that grace the
landscape of Savannah
help give it it's haunted charm and character
The Mercer-Williams Mansion was
originally built by Johnny Mercer's grandfather. The musician
never lived in the house. It was purchased and restored by Jim
Williams, upon whose life the book and movie "Midnight in the Garden
of Good and Evil" was based.
This "haunted house" (The
Hamilton-Turner Inn) is now a bed and breakfast.
It is rumored to be haunted by friendly ghosts and passed through
the hands of the cheerful rascal, Joe Odom, featured in the
movie/book "Midnight in the Garden of Eden."
Disney modeled the "Haunted Mansion" after this house.

which they stored ammunition and attacked invaders.
